What’s in my Hot Dog?
April 16, 2025Grilling a Wisconsin Meadows 100% grass-fed steak requires a slightly different approach than grilling conventional grain-fed beef due to its leaner nature and lower fat content. Grass-fed beef can overcook quickly, so it’s essential to follow these steps to ensure a juicy, flavorful steak.
Before you begin grilling, it’s important to select the right cut of meat for grilling such as the ribeye, sirloin or strip steaks. Other cuts of meat work for grilling too, but they may need a different variation of grilling instead of the below instructions. Once you have your perfect steak picked out, make sure to bring it to room temperature. Take the steak out of the refrigerator 30-34 minutes before grilling to ensure even cooking. This is the best time to season it, whether its with simple salt and pepper, or be creative and use garlic powder, paprika or your favorite spice flavor. You can even marinate the steak for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and your choice of herbs. Really, the sky is the limit for your flavor profile!
Grilling Instructions:
- Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 450–500°F). If using charcoal, arrange hot coals for direct heat grilling.
- Oil the Grates: Use a high-smoke-point oil (like avocado or canola oil) to lightly grease the grates to prevent sticking.
- Sear the Steak: Place the steak on the hottest part of the grill and sear for 2–3 minutes per side. Avoid moving it around to get those perfect grill marks.
- Lower the Heat (or Indirect Heat): After searing, move the steak to a cooler part of the grill or reduce the heat to medium-low to finish cooking. This prevents the exterior from burning before the interior is done.
- Monitor the Temperature: Use an instant-read meat thermometer to avoid overcooking. Remember, grass-fed beef is best enjoyed at rare to medium-rare to preserve tenderness. But grill the meat to your liking:
- Rare: 120–125°F
- Medium-Rare: 130–135°F
- Medium: 140–145°F
- Rest the Steak: Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5–10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
After your steak has rested, slice the meat against the grain to ensure tenderness and serve with your favorite grilled vegetables, roasted potatoes or a fresh salad. Enjoy your perfectly grilled Wisconsin Meadows 100% Grass-fed Steak!
